Tomorrow, Wednesday 16 June, the Frecce Tricolori of the Air Force will roll out the Tricolor in the sky of Brescia on the occasion of the start of the 1000 Miglia 2021, the legendary car race that will cross some of the most beautiful cities in Italy along 1.800 km. A new appointment for the 313 ° Acrobatic Training Group "Frecce Tricolori", a few days after the flyover of the city of Rome on the occasion of the Republic Day, to seal the Made in Italy once again, underlining with green, white and red fumes the passion of the participants and the warmth of the communities crossed by the 1000 Miglia: emblem of the Italian classic car race par excellence, which makes the world dream.
During the 3rd stage of Friday 18 June from Rome to Bologna, the Freccia Rossa will be "escorted" - along the 7th sector over the cities of Amelia and Orvieto - by Eurofighter fighter aircraft of the 4th Wing of Grosseto, one of the Departments of 'Aeronautica Militare deputies for the defense of national airspace and NATO, which on 1 June celebrated the 90th anniversary of its constitution.
It is a source of great pride for the Air Force to ideally take part in this legendary car competition, an event that represents a tangible sign of the gradual resumption of social, economic and cultural activities after the serious health emergency of the last year.
The 313 ° Acrobatic Training Group, this is the official name of the Frecce Tricolori, is a flight group of the Italian Air Force established on 1 March 1961 at the Rivolto airport (UD) and made up of about one hundred military officers, non-commissioned officers and graduates. . The formation of 10 aircraft, 9 plus that of the soloist, is made up of pilots from the flight operational departments of the Air Force who, following selection, become part of the National Aerobatic Team; here they spend a parenthesis of their operational career and then return to the Departments at the end of the experience. The remaining personnel belonging to the Frecce Tricolori are mainly specialists in charge of the maintenance of the Aermacchi MB339A-PAN aircraft.
The 4th Fighter Wing depends on the Air Squad Command through the Combat Force Command. Ensuring the air defense of the area of national interest, contributing to the control, since peacetime, of the relative airspace and carrying out air defense operations in the assigned areas, as part of the participation in international operations for the prevention and management of the crisis. Specifically, the Department is engaged in the alarm service, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, through the use of the Eurofighter aircraft. The 4 ° Stormo is also responsible for ensuring the operational conversion of the pilots of the Armed Force to be used in the Eurofighter F-2000 line.
