China stalled before expressing itself on US demands for more space for foreign technology companies

As reported by the Financial Times, China is waiting to conclude the trade talks scheduled for this week before addressing the issue related to US requests calling for easing technology restrictions.

The White House has announced that talks between US negotiator Robert Lighthizer and Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin, which will take place in Beijing, are scheduled for the next 28 March.

It is clear from the report that Beijing has not yet offered "significant concessions" to US requests that China stop discriminating against foreign cloud computing providers, reduce overseas data transfer limits and reduce the obligation for companies to store data locally.

China has withdrawn its offer on digital commerce, judged insufficient by the United States that has asked for stronger commitments, avoiding to express itself on its intent and without giving further details.

Last Friday, US President Donald Trump reported that talks aimed at resolving the trade dispute were proceeding with a view to a final agreement between the two super powers.
