Conte 2: The fight for under-secretary seats

Luigi Di Maio: "I will have the last word and choose on the basis of skills but you must propose candidates".

(by Massimiliano D'Elia) Luigi Di Maio, besieged by over forty disappointed grillini, has only little more than 20 places to assign. In order not to have sole responsibility for the choices, he told the presidents of the 28 committees of the Chamber and Senate: "I will have the last word and I will choose on the basis of skills but you must propose candidates to me ”.

At the offices of the presidents of the M5S-led committees it is an embarrassing coming and going, so much so that the heads of the Commissions write in a joint note: "we are not employment offices".

In the Maio Movement he wants a list of 5 names from each Commission and then he pulls out one and pentastellati Commission presidents will not be promoted to sub-government positions. A move to avoid the replacement with those of the Democratic Party. These are the guidelines to mark the discontinuity, result? An internal war has begun between the pentastellati with no holds barred, so much so that a grillino deputy commented: "A crazy method".

There will therefore be forty-two undersecretary posts to be assigned by Friday. To accelerate is Giuseppe Conte who wants to close the game as soon as possible to give "full powers" to the yellow-red government.

Five stars would go between the 22 and the 23, to the PD between the 17 and the 18, to Leu 1 or perhaps 2. A majority meeting is scheduled to settle any doubt in the evening. Some assume a pattern that sees three technicians and two politicians, or vice versa.

The names in the running of the M5S. Stefano Buffagni and Laura Castelli for Mef, Alessio Villarosa, Marco Pellegrini, Francesco D'Uva at the Interior, Luca Carabetta at Mise and Giancarlo Cancelleri at Transport, while Nicola Morra should remain at the Antimafia.

The situation is not better in the Democratic Party because there are so many currents (the director Alessandro Sallusti calls them tribes) to please. So for now, no certain shortlist of candidates, the unitary spirit and territorial balance will be privileged even if the discussion is very heated within the individual currents.

A turning point could be Dario Franceschini who, following a meeting with Matteo Renzi, could provide a list already today. Among the eligible candidates, Marina Sereni and Lia Quartapelle for Foreign Affairs, Lele Fiano for the Interior, Gian Paolo Manzella for Innovation, Walter Verini for Justice and Anna Ascani for University.

As for the Presidency of the Council, the Pd should go to the publishing delegation with Andrea Martella and probably also to local authorities, including Rome, the M5S should have the Reforms.
