EU and France hope that Tehran will review the decisions contrary to the JCPOA agreement

France urges Iran to "revert to decisions contrary to the international agreement" on its nuclear program, known as JCPOA, signed in Vienna in 2015.

A spokeswoman for the French Foreign Ministry, after the latest announcements in Tehran, said "We remain committed to the JCPOA and urge Iran to revert to decisions contrary to the agreement, to fully respect its obligations and to cooperate fully with the 'International Atomic Energy Agency (Aiea) ”.

France is among the signatory countries of the JCPOA. On several occasions, Paris has expressed "deep concern" over the moves made by Iran after Donald Trump's United States withdrew from the agreement in May 2018.

The spokesman for the European External Action Service, Maja Kocijancic, echoes the invitation addressed to Iran. Expressing the feelings of the EU, she expressed concern for the statements made by Iranian President Hassan Rohani "We put pressure on Iran to you step back from activities that are inconsistent with your JCPOA commitments and avoid other measures that undermine the preservation and full realization of the JCPO. " "I reiterate our support for the International Atomic Energy Agency (Aiea) which is the only institution responsible for monitoring and verifying Iran's nuclear commitment and we are confident of its independence and impartiality and we base our assessments on Iranian nuclear activity on their reports, ”he explained. “More generally, the JCPOA, which was unanimously supported by the UN Security Council, is a key element for global nuclear non-proliferation and is also fundamental for regional, European and global security. The EU remains committed to the implementation of the JCPO.

In his speech, Kocijancic stressed that the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, recently declared that "it is increasingly difficult to preserve the Jcpoa".

The spokesperson then stressed that the EU has taken "numerous actions" to address the difficulties, in particular "the adoption of the updated block statute and Instex", clarifying that Brussels is waiting to receive "the IAEA report ".
