The State Police has implemented the measure of pre-trial detention in prison against a 24-year-old Italian foreign fighter for association with the purpose of terrorism, including international, enlistment, condoning terrorism and incitement to commit crimes with these purposes. The operation is the result of a complex investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of L'Aquila, aimed at tracing the fighter against whom the precautionary measure was issued in 2017 by the investigating judge of the Abruzzo capital and subsequently extended to international field.

“The young man - reads the press release - from his birth resident in Switzerland, had undertaken when he was still a minor a path of conversion to Islam which led him to complete radicalization; precisely the deep sharing of the jihadist movement prompted him, in 2014, to leave for the Syrian-Iraqi quadrant to join the Qaedist formation Jabath Fatah al-Sham together with his wife, a Turkish citizen born in Germany, from whom he subsequently had three sons". The activities of the Digos of Pescara and of the specialized personnel of the Service for the Fight against Extremism and External Terrorism of the DCPP / UCIGOS - already started in 2015 - allowed to document "the effective activism of the Italian citizen among the ranks of affiliated terrorist to Al Qaeda in the war territories of the Syrian-Iraqi quadrant, as well as his intense proselytizing activity, combat training and subsequent use in military activities ”. The foreign fighter and his family were located in the Syrian area of ​​Idlib and the young man expressed his will to surrender to the Italian authorities. Anti-terrorism officials of the State Police, of the External Information and Security Agency (AISE) and of the Digos of Pescara went to Hatay (Turkey) to take over the compatriot who, having arrived in Italy, was notified of the order of precautionary custody in prison, while the wife and children of the foreign fighter, according to the wishes of the spouses, remained in Turkey.
