Italy-China, the way opens for a new commercial model. Security fears with "5G"

(by Massimiliano D'Elia) The delegation of Chinese President Xi Jinping is made up of at least 500 people. The security measures in the capital have been increased beyond belief and the two ceremonials are on the verge of a nervous breakdown: there is also discussion about the number of pens to be placed on the tables of the various meetings.

After various vicissitudes, among the various souls of the government majority, the memorandum on the new Silk Road will be signed next Saturday at the end of the four-day state visit.

Giuseppe Conte wanted to reassure, with a declaration, the hesitancy of many Italians: "The agreement with China is only of an economic and commercial nature and therefore fully legitimate. And it will bring growth for the country, with great profits for our companies with great know-how in the large projects in the pipeline".

The concerns, however, do not depart from the collective imagination. Also because the resentment of the American historical ally is strong. Italy will be the first country of the G7 to sign a memorandum with China, it will be the precursor of a new commercial impulse where China will have to measure itself for the first time with the "European rules on trade". Most likely a business model will be created that is also valid for other European countries. Behind the American fears of security lies the real fear: the radical shift of the commercial axis of the old continent towards the Asian country.

The concerns of America, for now, and of most of the Western world are focused on the future agreements that will flow from the "memorandum". To obviate any doubts, plans are being made to organize specialized working groups in the evaluation of future agreements according to the law that protects the national strategic interests "the Golden Power".

In this regard, Foreign Minister Moavero Milanesi from Brussels also expressed himself: "the European Union is considering an extension of the Golden Power", That is, the power of the State to oppose or veto certain operations of an extraordinary nature involving strategic sectors, such as cyber security.

The dangers to cyber security

American fears are based on several technical assessments. One example above all are submarine telecommunications cables. There are about 400 and they connect all continents exchanging 95 percent of data globally. But who builds these "vital" arteries for world communications? One of the leading companies in the sector is Huawei. Chinese company accused by the United States of espionage on behalf of China by taking advantage of its contracts to implement 5G, the next generation cellular network, around the world.

The proximity of Huawei to the Chinese government is a danger, according to the Americans, because in the systems it sells abroad, it could engage in cyber espionage. The evidence in this regard has never been produced, so much so that Huawei is trying to retaliate in court to obtain an unblocking of the 5G contracts. In Europe, Huawei has made numerous deals to build the new cellular networks, but several European governments are receiving strong pressure from the United States to review contracts and rely on other companies.

How our lives will change with 5G technology

The 5G will make it technically possible to use the virtual and augmented reality in our cities. Wearing appropriate visors, we will be able to visit ancient monuments seeing their original architectural forms or walking in places far from us thousands of kilometers. Perhaps our smartphones will become foldable and will allow us to watch films in 4K everywhere as well as allowing us total communication with all our friends.

Even those who have always declared themselves not interested in innovation will inevitably perceive 5G from the genetic mutation of all the services they use every day. They will feel it when they have to be operated by robot surgeons like "Da Vinci"That already exist and that to work in safety they will need communication times of a few milliseconds: less than the time necessary for the nervous stimulus to go from the tip of our finger to our brain.

They will think of 5G when cities will be crossed by self-driving vehicles that will have to react in a few milliseconds to the unexpected events that animate our "human" driving experience. They will realize its silent presence when the objects of the house, the machine tools in the factory where he works or the objects in inventory in the shop and in the office are connected, cataloged, located and able to communicate their degree of wear or necessity. revision. Obviously they will think of 5G when their heart and their vital parameters are continuously monitored and analyzed remotely by algorithms that will identify all the risk factors or when they are immediately recognized by the bus, plane or train that we will use to travel. Think of any service present in your life experience: 5G, the possibility of exchanging huge amounts of "Big Data" data in very fast times and instantly submit them to "Artificial Intelligence" algorithms they will change it radically.
