Ponte Morandi, will do Cdp with Fincantieri, the idea of the Government

The yellow-green government does not want to leave the reconstruction of the former Morandi bridge in Genoa to Autostrade per l'Italia, therefore to Atlantia-Benetton. The idea is to entrust the task to an entity with public participation such as Fincantieri, as known controlled by the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (Cdp).

In Genoa yesterday, then, a first meeting between the CEO of Cdp, Fabrizio Palermo, the head of Ansaldo Energia Giuseppe Zampini, and that of Fincantieri, Giuseppe Bono.

The president of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti and the mayor, Marco Bucci, received the format already used for natural disasters from Cdp.

After the meeting it was decided to draw up a memorandum of understanding between the various administrations concerned in order to identify an articulated series of measures to support infrastructure, mobility, businesses and citizens.

In the reality of Cdp "there are financial and technological possibilities of great quality and relevance which the Region and the Municipality can use for all the development plans", said Toti and Bucci. The Cdp has already made available 40 housing for about one hundred displaced persons and is ready to suspend the installments of mortgages opened by the Municipality for up to two years and to finance interventions on urban mobility.

The government, however, is said to be working on a much larger project. It is planned to bring the CDP fully into the construction of the new bridge which could only do so with the subsidiary Fincantieri. One of the hypotheses in the field is that the commissioner for reconstruction chooses to resort to a temporary association of companies (Ati). In this consortium, alongside the internal construction companies of Autostrade, he would be part Fincantieri Infrastructure, a new company of the shipbuilding giant. Given the urgency, one could also not ban the race, perhaps using tools made available by a decree.

From a political point of view, Fincantieri's participation in the reconstruction would be a guarantee of third-party work in relation to Autostrade. And it would give international visibility to a company on which Fincantieri is investing. Fincantieri Infrastructure already possesses various engineering skills, particularly in the construction of steel bridges, exactly the material that Autostrade wants to use to replace the Morandi.

The Governor of Liguria Toti is in favor of the idea that is being pursued. The CEO of Fincantieri Bono, for his part, points out that Infrastructure has all the skills and also the knowledge to do such a work, "we are already doing 4 steel bridges in Belgium". Bono reports that to date, however, he has not received any such requests.
