How much does Italy really pay to the EU budget?

Are 20 the billions that Italy pays every year in favor of the EU budget, or are they three, how does the EU Commissioner strongly support the Oettinger budget? We try to understand something because apparently everyone is right, but just as the truth lies at the center of the debate.

The EU commissioner on the budget, Guenther Oettinger in an interview with the politician spoke about the contribution that Italy pays to the EU, "the figures on Italy's contribution to the EU must be corrected because those announced so far are caricatural. The billions that Italy pays to Brussels are not 20 but 3. Italy pays according to the years between the 14 and 16 billion but also receives equally substantial figures from the EU budget: subtracting how much it receives from what is obtained that Italy's actual disbursement for the European budget is three billion. EU funds go to cohesion programs, research and infrastructures because member states are the beneficiaries of European budgetary policy ".  Too bad that Italy is unable to use them and promptly sends them back. "Regarding the veto threat to the EU budget, Oettinger," we take note, but we are not going to react ". In this regard, the Commissioner states that "until two years ago Europe gave too little support to Italy on migrants, but since then, "the Commission is doing what is in its power to help Italy".

Deputy Prime Minister Di Maio on Fb, "the approval of the multiannual financial framework over the next seven years, which they would like to hurry up before the next European elections, is not a dogma. We will not let them do it, if the immigration situation will not change. Soon the veto will be certain shortly. According to Europe, the Italian government's veto on the budget and on net contributions is a farce. This speaks volumes about the consideration they have of our country. Evidently they are used to Italian premier and ministers who go to Brussels with their hats in their hands. Commissioner Oettinger admits that we have been left alone on the migrants, and then he follows up in the wake of "it can not be done". A note from Berlin still speaks, despite everything, of the sacred dogmas contained in the Treaties. A vision short-sighted and sometimes crazy that is not able to photograph reality. Especially because, for them, the sacred Treaties can be interpreted; otherwise they would have to pay billions of euros for their excessive export that damages the whole economic system of the community. Music in Europe is bound to change, funding is not a dogma and it will not be even when we start talking about real solidarity, and not unbearable ties both from a social and economic point of view.".

On Italian shareshe also expressed himself Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesperson, Stef-fen Siebert, "The financing of the European budget has been ratified in the European Treaties. And it applies to everyone. It is clear that migration is a challenge for the EU and that there is a need for a common response".

The German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer also said that he was convinced that soon there will be an agreement with Italy for the referral from Germany of the asylum seekers already registered in the country, in this regard, "We are already far ahead and we will reach an agreement".

He could not miss the response of the French president Emmanuel, "Italy is against Europe that is not on a migratory level, but it is structural funds for Europe, when I hear certain ministers".

The Messenger in an article reports that European Parliament data in the 2016 provide the only official data on the quotas paid by Italy. It paid 13,94 billion to the European budget and collected, on behalf of the EU, 2,23 billion in customs duties from which it has the right to withhold 20% for administrative expenses. On the other hand, Brussels has assured Italy of funds of 11,59 billion mostly destined for the agricultural sectors and regional funds for infrastructure and development policies. As established by the Court of Auditors at the beginning of the year between 2010 and 2016, Italy has paid about 37 billion more to Brussels than it has received. And yet, even in that report, the accounting magistracy underlined the enormous advantages granted to our country by participation in the European Union in terms of the single market but also of financial stability that if we were on our own we would never be able to guarantee.

However, the political crisis with the EU shook the gap between the BTPs and the German bunds, which stood at 282 basis points.
