Today 21 March the European Multi-Mission Frigate (FREMM) Carlo Margottini of the Navy arrived in the port of Dammam, Capital of the Province of Al-Sharqiyya in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where it will stop until 23 March.
Nave Margottini is the third FREMM unit delivered to the Navy for the 27 February 2014 in an "anti-submarine" version and is fitted with state-of-the-art technological systems.
Starting from La Spezia on February 20 and coming from Kuwait City (Kuwait), the unit arrived in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) before arriving in Gjibuti in April to take command of Operation Atalanta.
The deployment of the Italian FREMM in the Middle East, in addition to guaranteeing the presence and surveillance for the protection of maritime traffic lines of national interest, is one of the activities that the Navy conducts with allied and friendly nations in the sector of multinational cooperation and dialogue. between nations. At the same time, this activity makes it possible to guarantee a qualified presence in various foreign countries, to consolidate or initiate relations with potential partners with whom Italy has important political-diplomatic and economic relations, in the context of the institutional tasks entrusted to the Armed Force.
The Unit is the result of the so-called "country system" where the operational capacity of the crew is effectively integrated with the systems provided by the European industry in general and national in particular, as Fincantieri, Leonardo, MBDA and Electronics whose collaboration with the Navy has made this campaign possible.
