Undersecretary Ferraresi: 'with a pandemic crisis, efforts must be made to increase transparency and new technologies'

Optimize the use of new technologies tested in the acute phase of the pandemic, increase transparency in public administration and strengthen international cooperation. These are the main elements on which the action of the Ministry of Justice is being directed towards the fight against corruption. This was underlined yesterday by the Undersecretary for Justice, Vittorio Ferraresi, at the OSCE summit, called by the Albanian Presidency.

'' Italy has always been at the forefront of promoting anti-corruption policies and strongly shares a transnational approach, which therefore feeds on the exchange of experiences and new methods, '' said the Undersecretary. '' The Ministry of Justice, in particular, continues to promote and intensify the use by judicial authorities of joint investigative teams, the most innovative and effective tool among those introduced in the field of judicial cooperation in the past 20 years. Together with the strengthening of sanctions against corruption, Italy is developing prevention policies focused on the transparency of the public administration. ".

"As we know," he continued, "corruption is still an open question in many countries and represents one of the main obstacles for the effective affirmation of the rule of law. In times of pandemic and global crisis, therefore, efforts must be increased and the new technologies tested at this stage must also be used to counteract possible new outbreaks of corruption ''.

Ferraresi then recalled that the so-called 'Sweepers' law, one of the most incisive actions implemented by this government on crimes against the public administration, '' introduced the recovery of the profit of the crimes committed, the repair of the damage, the interdiction perpetuated by public offices and a ban on contracting with the public administration. Furthermore, '' he concluded, 'the discipline of undercover operations has been extended.' '
