FdI: "Multi-year defense document photographs critical reality for the armed forces and industry"

The Senator of the Brothers of Italy, Isabella #Rauti, group leader in the Defense Committee at the end of the hearing with the Chief of Defense Staff, Enzo #Vecciarelli, in front of the defense committees gathered, on the DPP - Multiannual programmatic document for Defense for the three-year period 2019-2021, so in a note comments the exposition of the head of #Stato #Maggiore della #Difesa: "the analysis of the defense budget photographs a situation that is generally very critical and, specifically, the percentages relating to exercise and investment are concerned. In the context of the multiannual programmatic document there is, in fact, a large and important portion destined for programming which is blocked or canceled as it lacks funding. The cut in resources will negatively affect the implementation of many programs of the Armed Forces, affecting both their effectiveness and operational capacity which, on the other hand, today are qualitatively very high and with peaks of excellence. The scenario is therefore characterized by blocked or canceled projects combined with the absence of planning, also resulting from the failure to refinance those laws establishing the spending programs (Mise funds) that would have allowed the start of important industrial projects.  Fratelli d'Italia therefore expresses its concern for a situation that could have serious repercussions, widening the gap between security and defense precisely at a time when the geostrategic context of reference is characterized by old and new challenges and hybrid threats and complex. It is clear that it will become increasingly difficult to defend the national interest and to keep the commitments undertaken at the international level, as well as to allow Italy to remain militarily credible and authoritative, as it has been until now. Without forgetting that the 'cleaver' of the lack of resources will produce an unprecedented situation, in which the qualitative excellence of our military instruments and of the entire reference industrial sector will be heavily put at risk.".
