Duterte: soon possible terrorist attacks in the Philippines

According to the NOVA agency, the president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, warned that the country could be hit shortly by a terrorist attack, and added that airports, ports and other public places are the most vulnerable targets.

The terrorist threat "is advancing very rapidly," said the head of state, who on Tuesday announced an emergency meeting of national security leaders to effectively deal with the threat. "It is good to be able to anticipate that there will be an attack," the president said. “(The terrorists) will probably blow themselves up in places where people are used to concentrating, like airports, piers, parks. That's what happened in Mindanao, ”Duterte said.

"I say to the security forces, the Philippine Armed Forces and the National Police that in matters relating to security and terrorism no neighborhood will be asked or granted," said Duterte, who then asked citizens to keep their guard up against any threats. The Philippine Congress approved last month the one-year extension of the martial law in force in Mindanao, the scene for months of the battle for the city of Marawi between the army and Islamist militias.

The Philippine president, Rodrigo Duterte, had asked the lower house to extend the martial law in force in the south of the country for another year, justifying the request with the intensification of the revolt of the paramilitary organization New People's Army, affiliated with the Communist party. Martial law was proclaimed last May 23 for two months following an attack by the Islamic group Maute in Marawi; in July it had been confirmed until 31 December.
