Italy: parades without serious accidents

Quiet day, during the processions that took place throughout Italy and the satisfaction of the Interior Ministry is tangible. For this reason, Minister Minniti wanted to personally express his appreciation to the Chief of Police, Franco Gabrielli, for having managed this "decidedly demanding" day with "calm firmness", in which a total of 119 demonstrations were held in 30 provinces, which saw committed about 5 thousand units. “The strength of Italian democracy is confirmed once again”, he concludes. The only complicated moments were experienced in Milan, when the police and the procession of antagonists came into contact. The anti-fascist procession was heading from Largo La Foppa to Porta Volta, when a group attempted to head towards Piazza Baiamonti as opposed to the Casa Pound rally. About twenty officers were deployed in riot gear to block the passage. The demonstrators came into contact with the police cordon. Smoke bombs and firecrackers were launched and the police responded with some batons and a lightening charge. Other clashes, however, had already occurred in the morning after an action by the students of the Casc Lambrate collective. The boys climbed the monument dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi, in Piazza Cairoli, where at 15 pm the electoral rally of the prime minister of CasaPound Simone Di Stefano and the candidate for the presidency of the Lombardy Region Angela De Rosa took place. Activists have lit smoke bombs and waved the banner "Yesterday partisans, today anti-fascists". Everyone's eyes were also on Rome where, however, everything went smoothly. Many people (for the organizers about 100 thousand people) marched in the rain for the 'Never more fascisms' march promoted by the Anpi with CGIL, CISL, UIL and twenty other democratic associations. Many came from all over Italy: Lombardy, Puglia, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna. A procession that, at least for a day, united the center-left: from Boldrini to Grasso to Renzi and Gentiloni took part. No problem even at the demonstrations organized by Cobas and No Vax. Finally, in the South, there was great concern for the rally of Roberto Fiore, leader of Forza Nuova, in Palermo. A city where the tension had skyrocketed after the attack on the local representative of the far-right party Massimo Ursino. The two were able to hold their demonstration. And, fortunately, the anti-fascist procession organized in protest took place without particular acts of disorder.
