Isis publishes a video and threatens the Pope: We will arrive in Rome

ISIS has released a video, shot in Marawi, in the Philippines, in which it threatens Pope Francis and a jihadist says "we will arrive in Rome". In the video, published by Al-Hayat Media Center - one of the official ISIS networks - several jihadists destroy statues depicting Christ and tear a poster with Bergoglio's face while one of the jihadists, identifying himself "Abu Jindal, says in English : “Remember this unbelievers, we will be in Rome”.

Marawi, a city on the island of Mindanao, has been at the center of violent fighting between Isis and the Philippine army.

The clashes began last May 23, when the Philippine army attempted to capture Isnilon Hapilon, an extremist Islamic leader on whose head the FBI placed a $ 5 million bounty. Attacked by government forces, Hapilon with more than a dozen of his men found the support of the armed militants of the Islamist group Maute, who swore allegiance to the caliph, and about 50 men managed to enter the city. The jihadists launched a siege, captured a piece of the city of Marawi, beheaded a police chief, set fire to some buildings, took a Catholic priest and several faithful hostage and hoisted an ISIS flag.

The soldiers of President Rodrigo Duterte are trying, with artillery and air strikes, to wrest from the jihadists the neighborhoods of the city on which they hoisted the black flag of the Islamic State. At least 2 residents are still trapped in the disputed areas.
