The State Police of Reggio Calabria arrested 3 subjects for manslaughter and pluri-aggravated robbery against an 88-year-old pensioner from Reggio.
The investigation, conducted by the Reggio Calabria Squad, allowed to identify a group of robbers consisting of two men and a woman who in the last month of October brutally attacked the old woman to take possession of substantial sums of money that the victim hid in home, until it causes death.
Malanova is the name that the policemen of the Reggio Calabria Flying Squad gave to the operation.
The alarm at the 113 of the Operative Room of the Police Headquarters of Reggio Calabria had been given by some family members of the victim who did not see her arrive at a Sunday meeting, they went to look for her at home, where they had found her on the bedroom floor devoid of life.
In the late afternoon of last October 21, the robbers waited for the victim to return to their home and then entered the apartment in order to force her to hand over the money she had at home.
The accurate analysis of the video surveillance images, allowed the police to detect some suspicious passages of two cars used by the 3 subjects that that afternoon had traveled the area for a long time until the moment they had crossed the victim.
Furthermore, the activity of telephone and environmental interception and georeferencing of the technical data made it possible to acquire further elements useful for corroborating the circumstantial framework of the three suspects.
The investigation by the Procura della Repubblica of Reggio Calabria has shed light on a series of predatory crimes committed by the arrested persons.
The investigations conducted by the State Police showed that two suspects were daily engaged in the consumption of robbery on the street, theft and muggings in the south of the city, targeting weak subjects (elderly and women), of which they studied habits, styles of life and their movements, before carrying out the criminal act.
Many shots were thwarted by the police before they were brought to completion by the robbers.
