Malaria: Point your finger to migrants, an absolute disagreement

Federico Gelli, head of the health department of the Democratic Party, underlines: "Instrumentalizing the death of the 4-year-old girl as the center-right is doing, saying it is all the fault of the migrants, is an absolute blunder."

Gelli, engaged in Florence at the Unity party which this year hosts the national thematic focus on the health sector, specified: “First of all we start from a premise: every year in Italy there are about 600 people who fall ill with malaria. People, and this is the most frequent case study, who mainly traveled for work, tourism or study in countries endemic to malaria ”. The health system "is used and equipped to manage and assist patients who contract the disease". For Gelli, in essence, that of the thirty-year-old girl "is an extreme case and the investigations and the prosecution will determine the possible causes". Among these, "but we are in the field of hypotheses, an error, a hospital accident, in which the blood of the two children suffering from malaria contracted in Burkina Faso and hospitalized in the same pediatric ward came into contact with the child".
