Today 12 March European Multi-Mission Frigate (FREMM) Carlo Margottini of the Navy arrived in the port of Doha in Qatar, where he will stop until 15 in March.
Nave Margottini is the third FREMM unit delivered to the Navy for the 27 February 2014 in an "anti-submarine" version and is fitted with state-of-the-art technological systems.
Starting from La Spezia the 20 February and coming from Karachi (Pakistan), the unit will arrive in Doha and, subsequently, will make some visits to the ports of Kuwait City (Kuwait), Damman (Saudi Arabia) and the United Arab Emirates, before arrive in Djibouti in April to take command of Operation Atalanta.
The stop in Qatar will see the participation of the ship Margottini at the sixth edition of the Doha International Maritime Defense Exposition & Conference (DIMDEX 2018), an important event in the field of technologies and industrial capabilities for defense in the maritime sector. An opportunity to establish and consolidate contacts with the marinas of friendly countries who face the same threats, risks and challenges at sea every day: illicit trafficking, piracy, illegal exploitation of marine resources.
The deployment of the Italian FREMM in the Middle East, in addition to guaranteeing the presence and surveillance for the protection of maritime traffic lines of national interest, is one of the activities that the Navy conducts with allied and friendly nations in the sector of multinational cooperation and dialogue. between nations. At the same time, this activity makes it possible to guarantee a qualified presence in various foreign countries, to consolidate or initiate relations with potential partners with whom Italy has important political-diplomatic and economic relations, in the context of the institutional tasks entrusted to the Armed Force.
Tuesday 13 March at the local 10.00 (08.00 in Italy) the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral of team Valter Girardelli, engaged in Qatar for a business visit, will attend the press conference on board the Unit during which the commander, Captain of Frigate Giuseppe Lai, will illustrate the ship, a jewel of Italian shipbuilding.
The event will be attended by the Ambassador of Italy in Doha Pasquale Salzano and Dr. Carlo Festucci - Secretary General of the AIAD, Federation of Italian Companies for Aerospace, Defense and Security - who will illustrate the state of the art of national defense industry as well as future programs.
