PyeongChang always closer to North Korea

North Korea has proposed to the South to hold operational talks next Wednesday to discuss participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. A positive sign that marks a further step forward in the dialogue started last 9 January resumed after two years of total silence.

The proposal was born after the bid made last Friday by Seoul that intends to complete the negotiations in view of the 20 meeting next January which will see South Korea and the North together with Lausanne before the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The meeting is expected to be held in the border village of Panmunjom, according to the Seoul Unification Ministry and would see the participation of a three-person delegation for North Korea led by Jon Jong-su, vice president of the state agency who looks after relations with the South while for South Korea will have Deputy Minister of Unification Chun Hae-sung as responsible.

On the table, the travel and logistics arrangements of the North Korean sports delegation trying not to violate the sanctions against Pyongyang voted by the UN Security Council and the inclusion in the "black list" of some top officials.
