Saudi Arabia: first results of the "Vision 2030" strategy

(by Pasquale Preziosa) Vision 2030 represents the new industrial, military and economic strategy of Saudi Arabia.

Many countries, including the US have long developed a strategic plan to develop partnerships with Saudi Arabia in the field of military technology purchases.

The war in Yemen and the operational and armaments needs connected to it, are pushing the country towards autonomy even in the manufacture of devices and final autoguiding systems.

Saudi Arabia has entered into contracts for the purchase of armaments with Italy which will soon be renewed.

Saudi Arabia has assumed as CEO of SAMI (Saudi Arabian Military Industry) the dott. Andreas Schwer from Rheinmetall to accelerate the industrial construction process and has already concluded a contract with the Lockheed Martin and the local company Wahaj for the "Paveway II plus" laser guided bomb terminal autoguide kit.

The CEO of Wahaj, Abdulrhman A. AL-Saif said that the contract with the USA is to be considered an important step towards Saudi autonomy in the field of armaments that can be used on Tornadoes, F 16 and F 15.

The Vision 2030 is achieving the first good results, with the exception of France and Great Britain, the other European countries, including Italy, are not very active in the Saudi area, yielding slices of the industrial market to other countries.
