In Pompeii, by pure chance, the massacre was avoided in a high-density area of faithful Christians. Under the effect of psychotropic substances and driving, out of control, of a car stolen in a pedestrian area densely frequented by Christians for the presence of a Marian shrine: it has all the characteristics of the "solitary wolf" Othman Jridi, the Algerian of 21 years that last monday, in Pompeii, has triggered the alert of the security forces after reaching the square in front of the basilica in a Fiat Panda that he had stolen a few hours earlier in Terzigno, Vesuviano. Jihadist modes - already recognized in other European cities such as Nice and London, where there were serious terrorist attacks - which led the prosecutor of Torre Annunziata (Naples) to send the documents of the incident to the counter-terrorism pool of the Prosecutor Neapolitan. The Algerian was taken by the carabinieri immediately after the event, thanks to the signaling of the municipal police: the military blocked it while trying to blend in on a bus. In the course of the trial by top grade, celebrated the following day, the monocratic judge of the Court of Torre Annunziata sentenced him to two years and four months in prison (for theft and false declarations); the investigating magistrate has left the decision to transmit the acts or not to the anti-terrorism pool in Naples, for further information. In the next hours the prosecutor will send the papers to Naples where the deputy prosecutor Maurizio De Marco will decide whether to have further investigations. According to the investigations, Othman Jridi is homeless; at Monday's 14 he stole a Fiat Panda in Terzigno, which he then used, two hours later, to cross via Lepanto in Pompeii, until arriving in the square in front of the Basilica, without finding obstacles to the practicability of the cars (planters and barriers) removed to facilitate the preparation of a stage for the Easter Crucis. The young man was noticed by the traffic police who tried to block him. Nonetheless, Jridi managed to escape, while the officers sounded the alarm. The carabinieri arrested him on a bus. Law enforcement officers lied about his home address where he was brought to investigations. To the man found in the house he whispered, in Arabic, to confirm his version of the facts, an attempt discovered thanks to the presence of an interpreter. During the trial the Algerian appeared poorly lucid; he admitted to having taken psychotropic substances, before driving, to "feel closer to Allah". Then during the hearing, he recited a litany in Arabic. At the end of the procedure, the judge opted for imprisonment in prison.
