Alfano in Libya, a complex challenge, a priority to work with Moscow

Angelino Alfano, Foreign Minister, in an interview with the Russian daily, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, stated that the challenges to complete the electoral process in Libya by 2018 "are numerous and complex" and for this reason "it will be very fundamental in the coming months, to be able to continue to count on the cohesion of the international community, and in particular on the consonance of Rome and Moscow ”.

The interview was published today on the occasion of the Minister's visit to Moscow as the OSCE Chairman-in-Office.

Alfano will see his counterpart Serghei Lavrov this morning, with whom he will not only talk about Ukraine but also about "bilateral issues and international current issues, starting with the crises in the Mediterranean and the Middle East", as he himself reported. "Collaboration with Moscow on the Libyan dossier is a priority for Italy and a constant in our action", declared the minister, reiterating that on this issue, Italy has "very frequent consultations" with Russia and "shares a same vision on the Libyan crisis and on the path to its resolution ". Alfano then praised the "central role of Moscow in ensuring the cohesion of the Security Council on a series of issues related to the evolution of the complex Libyan dossier".
