Degenerative diseases, even Pfizer throws in the towel on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's

After the departure of Merck Serono, the US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc has decided to renounce investment in the search for new drugs for the treatment of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The investments made were not sufficient, to obtain noteworthy results against the disease. For this reason, the American pharmaceutical company has decided to divert its resources elsewhere on other research fields. The efforts to find an "antidote" to dementia that affects tens of millions of people around the world have been expensive but futile, the company explained, which has therefore decided to abandon the path taken. The company added that it will fire 300 people in the neuroscience sector in Andover and Cambridge, Massachusetts, and in Groton, Connecticut, relocating funds to other research programs, without renouncing the fight against neurodegenerative diseases.
