Dubai tests the digital car plates. They work as smartphones

Dubai confirms itself as an authentic 'forge of ideas' or at least the ideal place where avant-garde ambitions can be realized. The latest news coming from the United Arab Emirates has to do with the world of transport and more specifically with the digital car plates that from next May, after the go-ahead granted by the Authority for roads and transport in Dubai, will be tested for a period of six months.
By the end of the year, therefore, we will know if the ambitious project that involves replacing the old traditional plates, in favor of the technological ones, will become reality.
The news is reported on the BBC website that in divulging the news, certainly very welcome to the so-called 'tech-addicted', underlines how the success of this experiment is subject to authorization by the Authority on privacy, which is responsible for decision on the admissibility of digital plates as an alternative to conventional ones. Also for the end of the current year, it will be possible to estimate the costs that this innovation will have on users.
The plates will be composed of a screen, a GPS receiver and transmitters able to receive information from electronic devices such as PCs, tablets or simple smartphones, allowing a direct communication between a control panel and the user, owner of the newly designed license plate.
The digital license plate will have a series of functions. For example, you can light intermittently if the car is stolen, it will always identify the position of the car thanks to the equipment of a GPS receiver, a function that will make it possible to send the coordinates of an accident and consequently call and guide the rescue. The digital plates, from what we learn from the first rumors, can be combined with a private account, thanks to which you can convey a lot of useful information as well as being used to pay for parking, fines or car ownership tax .
