Egypt: bomb against police general Mostafa al-Nemr

Two policemen were killed in the Egyptian city of Alexandria due to a bomb attack on the local security chief two days before the presidential elections.

Another five people were injured due to the explosion of the bomb that had been placed under a car and detonated at the passage of the police general Mostafa al-Nemr.

The attack has not yet been claimed but the state news agency has pointed the finger at the organization of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Islamic State last month released a video in which it warned the Egyptians about the vote and exhorted the Islamists to attack the security forces of leaders.

The government condemned the attack and announced that the attack would not affect the elections that begin on Monday and which see outgoing president Abdel Fattah al Sisi confirmed for a second term.

Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said: “These desperate attempts by the forces of terrorism and states that claim to influence the positive atmosphere the country is witnessing will only increase the determination of the Egyptian state to complete its political process and the economic progress ".
