2018 elections between fake news and new anti-fraud procedures

(by Massimiliano D'Elia) It was known that they were important elections and that they were new and unique elections as well. It was understood from the election campaign, without comparisons on television between the various party leaders, an incomplete election campaign carried out almost entirely on social media. Social media have played a decisive role in influencing public opinion, because, like it or not, they are the most used means of communication regardless of age, culture and race. Citizens who commed and shared millions of videos and messages from their political leaders also actively participated in the electoral campaign for the first time. All "no cost". This is another fact, namely the laughable costs of the electoral campaign, to the delight of citizens who are increasingly oriented towards anti-politics and above all on its costs.

All political leaders have therefore used social media and have told every day the stages of their electoral campaign, the one carried out in the territories, the real one, the one made among the people. In social media I would also include whatsapp. An even more invasive system, where everything goes around, where the network of cell phones connected to each other is deadly. In this new panorama, communication and information is no longer certified. The false news mixes with the real ones and vice versa, a unique soup that for good or bad conditions the public opinion.

Returning to the Italian political elections, as of this morning, news on polls of well-known institutions such as Piepoli and Ghisleri began to circulate on whatsapp. These were tables that showed in a very professional way the projections of the preferences of the Italians at the exit from the seats. I do not deny that they seemed really likely because they indicated, with novitiate details, data and percentages that gave a picture close to the pre-election polls.

Immediate denials of the aforementioned polling institutes and immediate press releases from some political leaders who invited the Interior Ministry to intervene.

These elections will also go down in history for the "chaos" generated by the new procedures for voting. Many queues and disservices registered at the seats. Each card is marked with an anti-fraud coupon, which is shown on the electoral register of the poll next to the name of the voter. Once the vote has been completed, the voter returns the ballot to the chairman who, before posting the ballot, checks the coupon number before removing it to give the ballot anonymity.

The citizen should then wait until the laborious operation ends to make sure in person that the operation is successful.

In all this passage it is really worthwhile to wait and check why you are never wrong when you think badly.

The most comforting figure of all is the turnout at the polls, which recorded an important percentage increase compared to that of the 2013. At 19.00, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior, the 56,91 of the entitled persons went to the polls, with a growing trend with the passing of the hours.
