Waiting for the two semifinals of the men's tournament of the US Open, scheduled in a few hours between the "debutants" Pablo Carreno Busta and Kevin Anderson and the one most awaited, which sees Rafa Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro, the women's tournament recorded a sort of change of guard. It will be in fact an unprecedented final to which we are preparing to assist for the award of the last Slam of the year. In fact, the two young Americans Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys will face each other, both at the first appearance in a final of the Slam. The 24enne Sloane Stephens, beats veteran Venus Williams with the score of 6-1 0-6 7-5. And to think that just three months ago, the young tennis player was still wearing a protective shoe that became necessary after surgery on her right foot due to a fracture that kept her away from the fields for a little less than a year.
On the other side of the network there will be, as another debutant has said, she too in the US confirming the overwhelming power of female tennis with stars and stripes. The 22enne Madison Keys got rid of New Yorker Coco Vandeweghe quite easily with a dry 6-1, 6-2. To go back to a final all stars and stripes you have to go back to the 2002 edition of the tournament, when the Williams sisters met at Flushing Meadows. Serena won in two sets defeated Venus by winning the tournament. Remaining at the 2002 edition, as if to underline the absolute dominance and not only female, American tennis players in that period, also the men's final was played between the compatriots Sampras and Agassi, with the first that won the best it won in 4 set on 'opponent.
