As reported by the Nova agency, the Indian government, through the newspaper "Hindustan Times", has threatened to take harsh actions against social media, such as Facebook, should their involvement in any illicit maneuvers of influence in the electoral process of the country.
According to the facts reported by the newspaper, the government also made it known that the opposition may have used Cambridge Analytica - the UK-based data analytics company, involved in the scandal for illegally using Facebook user data to Donald Trump's presidential campaign - to lead the 2019 election campaign.
Divya Spandana, head of social media for the Congress party, rejected the accusation and in a tweet stated that the news on the relationship between Congress and Cambridge Analytica is absolutely false.
