🎤 The rise of ISIS in Afghanistan worries Russia

Russia is "very concerned" about the rise of the jihadist organization of the Islamic State (Isis) in Afghanistan, where terrorist attacks are on the rise.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reported today during the press conference following the meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Muhammad Asif: “We are very worried about what is happening in Afghanistan and the growth of Isis influence. We strongly doubt how the US-led coalition in Afghanistan sees this threat and the steps they are taking to remove it.

Russia has repeatedly pointed the finger at the US strategy in Afghanistan, which considers it "without a future" and based mainly on the use of force.

Moscow, fearing their intrusion in the former Soviet republic areas bordering Central Asia, wants to curb the progression mainly of ISIS jihadists in Afghanistan as it considers the area part of its sphere of influence.
