Laser robot for Levi Strauss jeans

Levi Strauss changes production and chooses lasers to replace the workers. To make jeans of color and with strategic folds, the colossus will use robots, which will replace those who had previously dealt with the finishes of the product. The denim giant has already started using robots and hopes, within the 2020, to replace them with all the human beings involved in the finishing work of jeans: a work in some cases with risks of toxicity. The goal, reports the Financial Times, is to "reduce waste and costs", also shortening the design and manufacturing process, which seems too slow to respond to rapid changes in fashion. Levi Strauss does not communicate how much he is investing for the initiative: this is "the future of the manufacture of jeans" says Chip Bergh, the managing director of Levi Strauss, at the Financial Times. In recent years, the company has found itself facing increasing competition and strong pressure on margins and the introduction of robots speeds up and makes production more "agile". Lasers can finish a pair of jeans in 90 seconds compared to the 6-8 minutes of a human worker. Levi Strauss closed the 2017 with a falling profit of 3% to 281 million dollars, on revenues for 4,9 billions of dollars. Lasers are the last indication in temporal order of the increasing role of automation in the manufacture of the 21 / mo century.
