Leonardo accelerates on open innovation: agreement with Nozomi Networks for cybernetic protection of critical infrastructures

Critical and industrial infrastructures and related control systems (ICS-Industrial Control System) are increasingly exposed to cyber attacks and require higher levels of protection to develop appropriate reaction capabilities. This is the objective of the agreement finalized by Leonardo, a company active in the aerospace, defense and security sectors and Nozomi Networks, leader in cybersecurity technologies for the protection of industrial control systems (ICS). The aim of the agreement is to incorporate the Nozomi solutions in the Leonardo Global Protection Program for the cyber security of Critical Infrastructures, ensuring the automatic detection of communication behavior, no impact for the operation of industrial systems through passive monitoring, control
analytical and continuous identification of cyber threats. The offer will be available to Leonardo's Global Protection Program customers worldwide.

"The cyber threat to critical infrastructures, industrial systems and operational networks is increasingly pressing and the demand for more effective protection is rapidly growing," said Andrea Biraghi, Managing Director of the Information and Security Systems Division of Leonardo. "We started the collaboration with Nozomi Networks, recognizing the company the ability to provide decisive support in detecting anomalies in a timely and proactive manner, preventing threats, as requested by our customers".

The deep knowledge of the complexity of ICS networks, continuous innovation and the experience gained in artificial intelligence, have made Nozomi Networks SCADAguardian system the most complete product in its category. At the third generation of technology development, Nozomi Networks leads the ICS security market with a proven end-to-end platform for operational reliability and control. Capabilities include real-time monitoring, real-time visualization of industrial network behavior, hybrid ICS threat and anomaly detection, asset inventory and vulnerability assessment, all delivered through a single solution.

Leonardo has for years been engaged in the development of solutions to combat security threats, both in the military sector and in national critical infrastructures, and providing a complete and systemic approach to covering the entire life cycle of cybersecurity programs: consulting, evaluation and design for network and data security, adoption of specific technologies for the protection of SCADA / ICS systems, design and management of Cyber Threat intelligence systems, designed to support the investigation of possible new cyber threats and vulnerabilities.

Leonardo pursues an open innovation model, in line with what has been defined by the Business Plan recently presented by the company, collaborating with the best universities and national institutions of the countries in which it operates and activating synergies and qualified partnerships with innovative start-ups to integrate the best technologies .

“We are thrilled to partner with Leonardo to help strengthen the cybersecurity of critical infrastructures in Europe and around the world,” said Nozomi Networks co-founder and Chief Product Office, Andrea Carcano. "The company has a deep understanding of the peculiarities of these networks and we hope that thanks to the agreement, infrastructures around the world will be safer".

“Since our initial investment in Nozomi Networks in 2013, we have been impressed with their innovative capabilities and ability to address cyber challenges,” said Planven Investments CEO Giovanni Canetta Roeder. "Leonardo's proven reputation and its international connotation represent an opportunity for Nozomi Networks to accelerate its growth in Europe and worldwide."
