Leonardo participates in the FIDAE Air Show in Chile, looking at Latin America as a market with sustainable growth

Leonardo participates in the FIDAE Air Show 2018, one of the most important South American salons in the field of aerospace, defense and security, which will open its doors next April 3 in Santiago, Chile.

Ready to seize new business opportunities in Latin America, Leonardo will exhibit at FIDAE (Stand B44) a range of products able to meet the needs of the armed forces of Chile and other nations of the region, as well as the requirements of civilian helicopter operators .

Leonardo will present various models of helicopters able to meet the needs of civil and military operators, including the AW101 medium-heavy trimotor and the AW119Kx single engine. An AW139 intermediate twin-engine aircraft of the Carabineros de Chile, set up for public order tasks, will be on static display. Leonardo boasts a solid presence in the region in the rotary wing field with over 20 helicopters serving in Chile belonging to AW119, AW109, AW139 and W-3A Sokol models and over 400 specimens used for civil and military tasks. Leonardo helicopters are used for a wide range of operational applications such as naval roles, public order and national security, helicopter ambulance, search and rescue, fire prevention, civil protection, utilities, corporate and government transport, offshore transport.

The FIDAE Show will also host two C-27J aircraft of the Peruvian Air Force, an aircraft chosen by the customer thanks to its ability to operate safely and efficiently at high altitudes, on unprepared slopes in the Andes and on the local flight fields. The C-27J can efficiently and sustainably carry out humanitarian support activities enabling the Armed Forces to quickly transport basic necessities, materials and vehicles for emergencies in all weather conditions, day and night, to any geographical destination. (from the Andes to the Antarctic to the Chilean islands in the Pacific) and with the highest safety standards for the crew and passengers.

Leonardo has been in Latin America since the '30 years, with a strong presence in particular in the field of training aircraft since the' 60 years. All South American countries have used Siai-Marchetti or Aermacchi (now Leonardo) trainers or fighters, often used with great success in defense and security operations. Trainers

of Leonardo represent a modern solution to meet different requirements in the region. The new M-345, the new Fighter Attack version of the M-346, fully meets the expectations of many of the Latin American air forces, thanks to the low cost of acquisition and operation compared to other basic and advanced trainers or to aircraft dedicated to tasks police and air control in view of their high performance.

Leonardo has contributed to strengthening the security of Chile by supplying the Armed Forces with state-of-the-art electronic systems and sensors and has been present in the country in the field of land communications for several decades. In order to meet the needs of modern net-centric contexts and improve the effectiveness of joint operations, Leonardo has developed for soldiers and vehicles the new SDR (Software Defined Radio) communications system that will be exhibited at Fidae together with the portable infrared camera.

The knowledge and experience gained in the field of electronic systems, defense and security makes Leonardo a global leader with solutions such as the UAV Falco-Evo, a remotely controlled aircraft for operations at intermediate levels and with great autonomy, the new IFF system (Identification Friend or Foe) for friend-enemy identification in the 5 Mode standard that will replace the 4 Mode in the NATO environment within the 2020 and the new Miysis Directed Countermeasure Counter Measure (DIRCM) countermeasure system can protect the aircraft against the threat of infrared-guided missiles.
