At the opening of the closing session of the International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq - underway in Kuwait City and which sees the presence of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policies, Federica Mogherini - the Emir of Kuwait, Sabah Ahmad Al Jabir Al Sabah announced that Kuwait will lend a billion dollar loan to Iraq for the reconstruction of the areas destroyed during the war against the Islamic State, also paying another billion in investments.

The European Union, on the other hand, has announced the allocation of 400 million euros. Federica Mogherini, recalled that in the last three years the Union and the Member States have invested 3,5 billion euros in support of the Iraqi population. The new allocation, Mogherini underlined, will be aimed at humanitarian assistance, development and stabilization of the country.

"Now we are at a new beginning. We would not be at this point without the sacrifice of so many soldiers, without Prime Minister Haider al Abadi, his government, and millions of Iraqis: the victory is yours, it belongs to you. Iraq demonstrates that it is possible to defeat terrorism, that peace is possible. After the victory over Isis, it is necessary to be alongside Baghdad for peace to win as well. Europe and the Europeans are at your side"Concluded Federica Mogherini, head of European diplomacy.
