The President of the Lazio Region, Nicola Zingaretti, the President of the National Institute of Social Security (INPS), Tito Boeri, and the President of the Hospital Physiotherapeutic Institutes (IFO), Francesco Ripa di Meana, today presented an experimental Protocol of Understanding for the protection of disability from oncological diseases.
The agreement will allow the timely activation of the disability practice at INPS made by the oncologist specialist at the time of diagnosis. This protocol, lasting 18 months, will allow doctors to use the "introductory oncology certificate", thanks to which it will be possible to immediately acquire - during hospitalization or care at the health facilities - all the elements necessary for the legal medical evaluation, avoiding to the patient any further examinations and investigations. This is the first experimental protocol in the field of oncology and is aimed at optimizing and setting up this procedure in Lazio and throughout the country.
A fundamental step for the simplification of the relationship with the citizen and above all for the path of the fragile patient such as oncology. The regular compilation of the "introductory oncological certificate" by oncologists allows undoubted advantages in terms of appropriateness, fairness, homogeneity of the assessments and adequacy of the revision forecasts throughout the national territory, as well as the speed of the assessment, providing the Commission with all the elements necessary for its own evaluation, thus excluding further specialist examinations or requests for additional documentation (medical records, histological or instrumental examinations)
The protocol is part of the objectives pursued by the Lazio Region and the INPS to promote institutional collaboration as much as possible and to improve the relationship between citizen and public administration. The presence of the convention for the centralization of civil invalidity assessments, signed between INPS and the Lazio Region in December 2017, will also allow interested parties to undergo a single INPS visit. In addition, in cases of documented seriousness of the disease, the medical judgment for the release of invalidity benefits can be expressed in the deeds with the specialized cancer certification of the approved structure, thus avoiding also the INPS visit.
