(by Gennaro Petrone, chartered accountant and Aidr treasurer) The key to success is due to the ability with which it is combined into a single development model: physical and digital. Poste Italiane closes 2020 with record numbers: 27 million packages delivered in December, of which 20 million related to eCommerce, almost 10 million more than in the same period of 2019 (+ 56%) and is now preparing to start 2021 continuing the positive trail.

A consolidated success in the year that marked the growth of online commerce throughout the country. To the surge in demand for shipping services, recorded due to the pandemic, Poste Italiane responded by strengthening digital services dedicated to companies and individuals on the one hand, launching Poste Delivery and simultaneously increasing logistics, to guarantee transport. Last but not least, Poste has managed to establish itself in the ecommerce market, making the post offices, the beating heart of the company, protagonists, for years at the center of a new relaunch. A capillary network, over 12 thousand dedicated offices throughout the boot have contributed to the success of Poste Delivery.

In the coming months, following the success of the Rome Hub, a maxi pole for parcel sorting will be activated in Milan. The two centers will allow the Italian Post Office to triple the delivery capacity of online purchases to Italian homes. The strengthening of logistics will follow in parallel with that of digital. Lean and simple procedures, easy tracking, will continue to be the denominators of online services for individuals and the business area. Development, yes, but sustainable, which is why Poste Italiane is renewing its fleet: the goal is to reach 26 vehicles with low environmental impact by 2022, in particular for the delivery of postmen and for the transport of goods.
