The Russians obscure GPS signal during NATO operation Trident Juncture

The Russian military managed to block some GPS signals of vehicles interested in the important NATO military exercise in Norway which involved thousands of US and NATO soldiers. Reuter reported this after a statement from the Norwegian government.

The NATO exercise, Trident Juncture, ended on Sunday and involved about 50.000 military personnel. It has been defined as the greatest Cold War alliance exercise. A spokesperson for the Norwegian Defense Ministry reported the incident to CNN and that it would take place between the October 16 and the November 7.

Norway was able to establish that Russia was responsible for blanking the GPS signals in the Kola Peninsula during the Trident Juncture Exercise. Finland, on the other hand, denounced possible blockades in Lapland, ”NATO spokesman Oana Lungescu told CNN on Wednesday.

"Considering the civilian use of GPS, a block of this type is very dangerous and irresponsible," he added.

NATO general secretary Jens Stoltenberg also spoke on the event and confirmed that the alliance was aware of the jamming reports. "We have seen that there have been similar reports from Norway, and I can not share this information with you. "Stoltenberg said Sunday at the press conference at the end of the Trident Juncture.
"What I can say is that cyber, electronic warfare and electronic media are increasingly used in all operations  and so we take all these incident reports very seriously. "
The Pentagon has not commented on the story.

The Kola Peninsula is close to the Russian-Norwegian border and is where the Russian navy has its northern fleet. Although Norway is a founding member of NATO, Moscow has expressed strong opposition to the presence of NATO and US troops in the country.
