Usa and Japan, at the start of the Aegis Ashore missile system for 2,15 billion

Leading US and Japanese officials have agreed on the timely deployment of the Aegis Ashore missile system in Japan. It is learned from a press release issued by the State Department after the meeting between the Foreign and Defense Ministers of the United States and Japan in Washington, in the "2 + 2" format, aimed at discussing the priorities and challenges of the agenda bilateral before the visit to the US of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe next week.

"Ministers decided to strengthen capacities and their respective integrated defense against air and missile threats, including through the timely and regular deployment of the Aegis Ashore missile system in Japan", Reads the release. At the beginning of January, the US government had approved the sale to Japan of two Aegis Ashore land-based missile defense systems and related equipment, for an 2,15 billion dollar deal.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan met their Japanese counterparts with whom they also discussed the importance of enhancing the capabilities of the US-Japan Alliance through the introduction of advanced weapons systems in Japan such as F-35, E-2D, V-22 and standoff missiles, the statement continues.
