Former Albanian fugitive extradited to Italy. He had evaded Italian justice for over 20 years

Extradited ex Albanian fugitive, member of a hired organization, who escaped Italian justice for over 20 years

The 47-year-old Albanian VRAPI Luan returned to Italy this morning, escorted by staff of the SCIP - International Police Cooperation Service of the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police, led by the Prefect Vittorio Rizzi. GIP of Foggia on 24.11.1999 for voluntary homicide and aggravated personal injury.

The ex-fugitive, tracked down thanks to the frequent and consolidated collaboration between the Albanian police and the Office of the Italian Security Expert operating in Tirana, and thanks to the work of the Interpol Division of the SCIP, is a person known in the Italian chronicles, since he is accused, in competition with others, of the murder of the 22-year-old young laborer, Hyso Telharaj, which took place in the Foggia countryside in September 1999.

The name of Hyso has become a symbol of the rebellion against the hateful scourge of the corporal, but also of redemption and rebirth, often remembered by the Free Association which for the twentieth anniversary of his death, in September 2019, has promoted three days of memory and commitment entitled "The sweet smile of Hyso Telharaj".

He had come to Italy to look for work and had found it as an agricultural laborer for the harvest of the fruits of the land of the Capitanata. He was not killed by the disease or bent by fatigue as often happens, but murdered by the corporals because he had not succumbed to their blackmail and had not paid them the lace.

Don Ciotti also spoke about the murder and history of Hyso on November 15, 2019, in his visit to Tirana together with the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor, bringing him as an example of dignity, courage and rebellion against all forms of organized crime.

VRAPI Luan, after landing in Fiumicino and notifications of the acts by the Air Border Police of the Roman airport, will be handed over to the staff of the Bari Prison Police to be taken to prison available to the Apulian Judicial Authority.
