Abi and the Department of Public Security: falling 28% robberies in the last four years

At the conference "The General States of Security 2019", the data of the latest Report of the OSSIF Intersectoral Observatory on predatory crime.

Security increases in Italian banks and in the economic sectors most exposed to the so-called predatory crimes, also thanks to the profitable collaboration of the ABI with the Central Criminal Police Department. In 2018 the reported robberies were 28.441, almost 11 thousand less than the 2014, with a decrease of 28%.

Significant reductions were also recorded in other particularly exposed economic sectors.

Between 2014 and 2018, bank robberies were reduced by over two thirds (-67%). Those in pharmacies and petrol stations have almost halved (respectively -46% and -45%).

The robberies in post offices and commercial establishments have been reduced by about a third. In the tobacconists they decreased by 24%.

These are the main results that emerge from the 10th OSSIF Intersectoral Report on Predatory Crime, presented today in Rome on the occasion of "The General States of Security 2019", the annual appointment in which the Central Directorate of Criminal Police, the banks and the representatives of most relevant economic sectors are confronted with the dynamics and criminal phenomena.

The Deputy Director General of Public Safety Prefect Vittorio Rizzi reiterated that "Security also involves the active involvement of the business world, as demonstrated by the results obtained and those we expect".

“For the banking sector - said the Deputy Director General of ABI, Gianfranco Torriero - the safety of citizens and employees is a fundamental priority which sees banks constantly engaged on several fronts. That of investments, to perfect and strengthen protection measures; that of training, to provide all useful information to staff and customers. But above all that of collaboration and dialogue with the Police, to make their contribution and guarantee ever greater security, not only at the counter ”.

The Report was produced in the context of the Intersectoral Observatory launched by OSSIF - the ABI Research Center on Anti-Crime Security - together with specialists from the Criminal Analysis Service of the Criminal Police Central Directorate, with the participation of Assovalori, Confcommercio-Imprese per l' Italy, the Italian Tobacconist Federation, Federdistribuzione, Federfarma, the Italian Post Office and Unione Petrolifera.

Sharing, innovation and predictive analysis: these are the cornerstones of an incisive and synergistic prevention action.
