Abi: at the Salone dei Pagamenti the point on the implementation of the PSD2 in Italy and in Europe

The new European Directive is at the center of the work of the second day of the conference that closes tomorrow in Milan.

Foster a higher level of harmonization in the European retail payment market, taking into account the rapid technological development of the sector, and further increase the competition between the different operators, products and payment channels. To the full advantage of the final customer who can choose from a wider range of highly innovative, efficient and safe solutions. It is with these objectives that the European legislator has rewritten the PSD2 Payment Services Directive, to give impetus to innovation, digitalisation and competition through an appropriate legal framework. Ten months after the adoption of the Directive in Italy, which took place in January this year, finding Italian banks ready to play a leading role in the new context, the Payments Show becomes an opportunity to take stock of the status of the art of PSD2. Thanks to the comparison with the Authorities and with the various national and European market players.

The new Directive, in fact, is at the center of a series of in-depth sessions and workshops held today at the Show and focuses on the main innovations of the PSD2 and the scenarios opened by the completion of the second level regulation by the European Banking Authority (EBA), less than a year after the application of regulatory technical standards on strong customer authentication and secure communication.

PSD2 is just one of the themes that characterize the third edition of the Salone dei Pagamenti, the event promoted by ABI in collaboration with organizations promoted by it such as Feduf, Consorzio CBI and Consorzio ABI Lab, under the patronage of the Agency for Italia Digitale and organized by ABIServizi. The conference that ends tomorrow at MiCo-Milano Congressi, in fact, explores 8 thematic strands - “The future of global payments”; the “Bank (R) evolution”; “Shopping without Cash”; “Mobile and Millennials”; “Towards a Digital Society”; “Artificial Intelligence is coming”; "Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies"; “Privacy & Security” - through 60 discussion sessions, over 30 workshops and 300 speeches. The protagonists of the various work sessions are all the players involved in the payment process: banks and market operators, but also technology and Fintech suppliers; telephone network operators; Institutions and PA; small, large and micro enterprises; professionals and VAT numbers; large trade and distribution chains; citizens and families; schools, teachers and universities.
