Abi comments the data of the CGIA of Mestre on the performance of loans to companies

The data disclosed today by the CGIA of Mestre on the performance of loans to businesses do not correctly represent the phenomenon of support given by banks to companies.

This is stated by the Deputy Director-General of ABI, Gianfranco Torriero, underlining that, in particular, the CGIA of Mestre considers only the so-called living loans, ie it does not take into account loans received from companies and subsequently not repaid, ie does not take into account bad loans, which are however loans to companies.

This observation - continues Torriero - assumes even more importance if the comparisons are made, as does the CGIA of Mestre, taking as a reference not only the trend of the last year but also the comparison with the 2011, just the year in which loans began to significantly transform into bad debts. Therefore, not taking into account sold and securitized bad loans and bad debts undermine any intertemporal confrontation.

According to the official data of the Bank of Italy - he concludes - in November 2018, loans to companies increased on an annual basis of 1,1% and not decreased as indicated by the CGIA of Mestre.
