Abi: first mission of Italian banks in Ethiopia

First mission for ABI and Italian banks in Ethiopia, to identify and investigate the real prospects of commercial collaboration and partnerships that the recent transformations of the country will make progressively possible. With an annual GDP growth rate of around the 10% over the last decade, Ethiopia emerges as one of the most dynamic economies in Africa.

It is the Central Director of the Italian Banking Association, Pierfrancesco Gaggi, who reiterates the interest of the Italian banking sector in the internationalization of the national economy, as part of the entrepreneurial mission led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Emanuela Claudia Del Re and organized on the occasion of the Italo-Ethiopian intergovernmental summit.

The delegation of two (of the main) Italian banking groups participates in the mission: Banca Intesa Sanpaolo and UBI Banca.

“On the recommendation of the banks participating in the mission - said Gaggi - we organized a round table with the Ethiopian Banking Association and the main local banks. The meeting will be aimed at offering the Italian delegation an opportunity for contact with local counterparts, whose collaboration is essential for the further development of bilateral economic relations. We hope - concluded Gaggi - that the creation of new links between our banking sectors will lead to an even more effective support for Ethiopian and Italian companies. "
