Agreement between Eni, the Municipality of Taranto, AMAT and AMIU: in Taranto the full fuel of buses and vehicles for the collection of waste is done with the oil of fries

For six months some vehicles of AMAT and AMIU will use Eni Diesel +, the diesel containing 15% of renewable raw material and also produced with waste materials

Taranto concretizes the circular economy and experiments in public transport with a new fuel that contributes to reducing polluting emissions from vehicular traffic. It was signed today by the Mayor of Taranto Rinaldo Melucci, by the President of AMAT (Company for the Mobility of the Taranto Area) Giorgia Gira, by the President of AMIU (Multiservice and Urban Hygiene Company of Taranto) Carloalberto Giusti and by Giuseppe Ricci, Chief Eni's Refining & Marketing Officer, an agreement that envisages testing Enidiesel + in some local public transport buses managed by AMAT and in the waste collection vehicles that AMIU will make available.

"This year we aim to dedicate ourselves to a profound reform of our investee companies to give citizens services in line with the best national standards - explains the mayor of Taranto Rinaldo Melucci - The initiative in question, in addition to the technical test, represents a significant step in this direction and further demonstrates how a correct interaction between our community and the large presences of our territory is an opportunity for development and sustainability ».

For six months, from the 1 March to the 30 in August, the traditional diesel fuel will be replaced, without any additional cost for the Municipality and the two local public companies, by the new fuel whose renewable part is produced by Eni thanks to a proprietary patent that allowed the transformation of conventional refineries into biorefineries, ie capable of transforming raw materials of biological origin, including used vegetable oils and animal fats, into high quality biofuels.

The agreement also provides for actions to promote and increase the collection of used and frying food oils that the citizens of Taranto deliver to the AMIU recycling service to turn them into biofuels in the Eni biorefinery in Venice, in Porto Marghera , and soon also to Gela. Special containers for the collection of exhausted food oils will soon be placed also within the Taranto refinery

and all workers will receive a tank and special instructions to facilitate the delivery of cooking oils.

"Eni was the first in the world to transform a traditional refinery into a biorefinery to produce biofuels of the highest quality such as the innovative Enidiesel + fuel, using a technology that we have developed internally - explains Giuseppe Ricci, Chief Refining & Marketing Officer of Eni - and today our goal is to progressively reduce, to zero, the use of edible raw materials, compatibly with compliance with the regulatory obligations imposed by European and national regulations regarding biofuels and with the availability of so-called "advanced" alternative raw materials , on which, like Eni, we are investing heavily in research. With the agreement signed with the Municipality of Taranto and its municipal companies, the city in which we have one of our most important refineries, we confirm our commitment to the development of the sustainable economy and consolidate the use of waste, oil frying, as an important raw material for the production of Enidiesel + ».

The agreement signed today in Taranto expands the virtuous circle already started by Eni with the multi-utility companies of Turin, Venice, Rome and Emilia Romagna and whose tests have already shown important benefits in terms of air quality, economic and industrial . In fact, compared to traditional diesel fuel, Enidiesel + has a renewable component that reduces polluting emissions up to 40%, allows consumption savings of around 4% and a reduction in engine maintenance costs.

The same technical improvement parameters deriving from the use of biofuels will be the subject of joint monitoring on the AMAT and AMIU vehicles that will use Eni diesels +, in collaboration with CNR's Istituto Motori.
