State Police and Fincantieri, signed an agreement against cybercrimes

An agreement between the State Police and Fincantieri was signed today in Rome for the prevention and the fight against computer crimes concerning the systems and information services of particular importance for the country, including the technological platforms of Fincantieri, one of the largest navalmeccanici groups in the world.

The convention was signed by the Chief of Police - General Director of Public Security Franco Gabrielli and the President of Fincantieri Giampiero Massolo. The Central Director for Traffic Police, Railway, Communications and Special Forces of the State Police Roberto Sgalla and the Director of the Postal and Communications Police Service Nunzia Ciardi also participated in the Department of Public Security.

The agreement falls within the scope defined by the directives given by the Minister of the Interior for the enhancement of prevention activities in the field of cybercrime through the enhancement of the partnership with the private world. The insidiousness of the cyber threats and the changeability with which they arise require, in fact, an information synergy between all the actors of the cyber security to make common knowledge and experiences useful for experimenting effective forms of conflict.

For the State Police, this task is ensured by the Postal and Communications Police and, in particular, by the National Anti-Crime Center for the Protection of Critical Infrastructures (CNAIPIC) which, with an operating room 24 hours a day, represents the contact for the management of critical events of sensitive infrastructures for the country.

Fincantieri, which operates both in the civil and military field, has the task of designing, implementing and managing the computer networks and IT platforms to support the group's business functions, certainly to be considered of strategic interest for the national economy.

Aware of the importance of its information assets for the Country System, Fincantieri has progressively implemented an organizational and technological cyber security strategy, aimed at mitigating the risk of illegal access to its platforms for hostile purposes such as the interruption of the core business of the company, the undue subtraction of confidential information, also related to industrial secrecy, cyber attacks of a larger scale aimed at destabilizing the security of the country-system.

The President of Fincantieri Giampiero Massolo said: "Today more than ever, operating in a globalized and hyper-connected scenario, security is a goal to be pursued in concert with all the actors primarily involved. For our group, which today has a distinctive know-how and is divided into four continents, this collaboration is a result of absolute importance in terms of protection with a prompt response of information assets, allowing us to receive timely reports of emergencies related to the vulnerability and to facilitate the identification of the origin of the attacks against our networks ".

In order to manage cyber incursions in a coordinated manner, the collaboration envisages a two-way information exchange between Fincantieri and CNAIPIC regarding cyber security incidents, attempts at unauthorized intrusion into group systems, electronic sabotage of industrial automation systems. , or deliberate attempts to deny the service.

"Cyber security is therefore not only a necessity, but a priority, which the State Police and Fincantieri intend to guarantee through integrated interventions aimed at sharing information and jointly managing events on an operational level. This commitment is based on the awareness that anticipating the risk of possible critical IT events is the most significant moment to implement a complete system of cyber security ", said the Chief of Police - General Director of Public Security Franco Gabrielli.
