Abi: in the activities of awareness-raising and training against cybercrime

Increases the commitment of the banking world in the fight against cybercrimes through staff training initiatives, awareness campaigns for customers and technological devices. In the 2017, Italian banks have invested over 300 million euros to guarantee even more secure digital "operations" to customers. Retail customers who were victims of fraud were only 0,0018% of the total of those operating on home banking, equal to one on 55 thousand.

According to the Abi Lab study on online security, with the emergence of digital, increasingly relevant in the habits of citizens and businesses, for banks it is essential to implement awareness and training activities not only for customers, but also for bank staff . In particular, in the 2017 the actions focused more on the training of specialist security personnel (for the 75% of the banks interviewed), and of the branch staff (for 67,9%) for the direct relationship with the clientele and the relative assistance offered in case of anomalies. On the issue of customer awareness of cybercrime risks, the study emphasizes that Italian banks have developed campaigns through the Internet Banking portal (for 96% of responding banks), through information at branches (for 74,1%), contract information (for 59,3%), information on mobile device apps (for 37%) and e-mail apps (for 33%) and have promoted cross-sector collaborations, such as CERTFin - CERT Finanziario Italian (Computer Emergency Response Team).

Cyber security, however, also passes through the collaboration of bank customers. In order to operate online in a comfortable and safe way, in fact, it is important to follow some simple rules: ignore any request for data relating to payment cards and online accounts, which the bank will never ask its customers; connect to the bank's website by writing the address directly in the navigation bar, ignoring any links received via email and text message; always check the authenticity of the connection with the bank; regularly check the movements of your account to ensure that the transactions reported are those carried out; be wary of any message, even if apparently authentic, received by e-mail, text message, social network, which invites you to download documents or programs; install and keep the operating system and antivirus always updated; pay attention to any deterioration in the general performance (slowdowns, opening unsolicited windows, etc.) of your home banking service or your PC, which may indicate suspicious infections.
