Air Force at the service of Italians: "A weekend of intense activity"

A weekend of intense activity for the men and women of the Italian Air Force who, after recovering a missing woman from 82, carried two life-threatening newborns.

The last flight mission of the Italian Air Force, which transported a 13-month-old girl suffering from a serious disease from Barletta to Rome, ended around seven this morning. The child, aboard an HH139 helicopter of the 84th CSAR Group of Gioia del Colle, employed by the 15th Wing of Cervia, was transported from the “Monsignor Dimicioli” hospital in Barletta to the Policlinico Gemelli hospital in Rome. This is the second ambulance flight in less than 12 hours.

Earlier, in the late evening, a two-month-old baby girl, in imminent danger of life, was rushed from Olbia to Rome, aboard a plane "Falcon 900" of the 31st Wing of Ciampino. After about an hour of flight, the airplane landed at Rome airport, where the child was transferred to the ambulance for immediate transport to the “Policlinico Gemelli” hospital in Rome.

Furthermore, yesterday afternoon, an 82-year-old woman from the province of Isernia was tracked down by the men of the National Corps of Alpine and Speleological Rescue (CNSAS) and recovered by an HH139 helicopter of the Italian Air Force. The woman, after a search that had lasted for two days, was recovered with the aid of a stretcher that can be winched from a helicopter of the 85th SAR Center of Pratica di Mare, dependent on the 15th Wing. Once recovered, the 118-year-old was transported to the base camp set up in the area and handed over to the XNUMX men who transported the woman to the nearest hospital with an ambulance.

Missions of this type require maximum timeliness and flexibility. As shown by the four transports carried out, the Air Force Flight Departments are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating in any weather condition to ensure urgent transport, not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams or even ambulances.
