Banks: falling robberies of 28,7% in the first nine months of the 2018

Bank robberies are reduced by almost a third. In the first three quarters of 2018, in fact, 134 hits were made at the counter, with a decrease of 28,7% compared to 188 in the same period of the previous year. The so-called risk index - that is the number of robberies per 100 branches - also fell sharply from 0,9 to 0,7. These are the main results of the survey conducted by Ossif, the Abi Research Center on security, presented yesterday at the "States General of Security" conference, the Abi event that explores the issues of bank security and other sectors at robbery risk.

In the first nine months of 2018, robberies have decreased in: Abruzzo (-66,7%, from 6 to 2), Calabria (-50%, from 2 to 1), Emilia Romagna (-50%, from 20 to 10), Lazio (-27,3%, from 22 to 16), Liguria (-50%, from 6 to 3), Lombardy (-52%, from 25 to 12), Marche (-20%, from 5 to 4), Piedmont ( -38,9%, from 18 to 11), Puglia (-45,2%, from 31 to 17), Tuscany (- 12,5%, from 16 to 14) and Veneto (-28,6%, from 7 to 5). No bankers in Sardinia and Valle d'Aosta. The robberies in Basilicata (only one) and Molise (only one) remain unchanged. Increases have instead occurred in Campania (18 robots from 15), Friuli Venezia Giulia (a robbery from 0) Sicily (13 robberies from 9), Trentino Alto Adige (1 robbery from 0) and Umbria (4 robberies from 3).

During the meeting the results of the ninth Intersectorial Report on Predatory Crime were also presented, carried out by Ossif in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, and with the participation of Assovalori, Confcommercio - Companies for Italy, Italian Federation of Tabaccai, Federdistribuzione, Federfarma, Poste Italiane and Unione Petrolifera. The study analyzes the robberies carried out in the 2017 in banks, post offices, tobacconists, pharmacies, shops, premises, public businesses, large-scale retailers and fuel distributors, comparing the various sectors. This year's survey shows an overall reduction in the phenomenon: in particular, the most evident drop is recorded for bank robberies which, in the 2017, were reduced by 31,7%. The robberies in the post offices (-29,5%), the robberies in the pharmacy (-18,6%), the robberies in tobacconists (-11%), the robberies in the premises / public exercises (-7,4%) and the robberies in the shops are followed. (-6,8%).

At the end of the conference proceedings, the Abi and the Prefecture of Rome renewed the Anti-Crime Protocol, already operating on almost the entire national territory, to strengthen the collaboration between banks and law enforcement agencies, through dialogue and the exchange of data and of information.
