Medical malpractice. Elderly patient covered with ants

The doctors and nurses serving in the department of San Giovanni Bosco Hospital in Naples are under investigation

(by Giovanni D'Agata) Serious case of malpractice discovered in Naples. A patient intubated was recovered completely covered by ants. The doctors and nurses serving in the department of the San Giovanni Bosco Hospital in the Neapolitan capital were placed under investigation and suspended from the service. Now the family members want to clarify what happened.

It will be the judiciary to give all the answers. The news and not only, observes Giovanni D'Agata, president of the "Rights Window", an association that gives voice and assistance to the victims of malpractice, often looking for the truth, has been reporting cases for some time; but what is happening in the Italian hospitals, where the mechanism has jammed making us sink back into the health care middle age?

If we have made great strides with regard to standardized protocols and preventive measures, something in the chain is not working. Our government saves, but as usual it saves where it should invest, in structures and human resources, and this "modus facendi" is the main cause of the increase in medical malpractice. How much will this way of doing still cost us? The time has come to reverse course and invest correctly in our health care, because we risk taking a big step back and nullifying all the progress made so far.
