Marina Militare: the Alghero hunter finds a war device off the coast of Trapani

The discovery took place during a specialized activity carried out in favor of the community in the waters in front of the Sicilian port

In recent days, in the waters in front of the port of Trapani, the Navy's Cacciamine Alghero has identified a war bomb supposedly dating back to the Second World War. The discovery took place in the context of a specialized seabed monitoring activity that the ship is conducting on the routes of approach to the Sicilian port to ensure the safety of navigation.

The presence of the device was promptly reported to the maritime authority and the Prefecture of Trapani, which has already requested the intervention of the divers of the Operating Group Underwater (GOS) of the Command Submarine and Incursori (COMSUBIN) of the Navy in service at the Nucleo Disruption of Defensive Anti-Aging Prevention (SDAI) of Augusta, for immediate intervention.

In the next few days the divers of the Navy, in coordination with the Maritime Command of Sicily, the Prefecture and the Port Authority of Trapani will guarantee the actions of putting in safety the intervention area, with the lifting of the war device and the following blasting; the interdiction of the area will also be ensured by the Coast Guard of Trapani.

The activity is part of the actions carried out by the minesweepers of the Command of the Navy Mine Countermeasures Forces (MARICODRAG) in favor of the community, aimed at guaranteeing free access to ports, keeping maritime communication routes open, ensuring transit of merchant units and the safety of navigation, contributing among other things in a substantial way to the safety of those who work daily from the sea and on the sea and derive the fruit of their work.
