Ahed Tamimi, the Palestinian teenager filmed while beating an Israeli soldier, released

Ahed Tamimi, the teenager arrested last year in the occupied West Bank filmed while kicking and slapping an Israeli soldier, was released.

Tamimi, who at the time had 16 years, became a heroine for the Palestinians after the December 15 incident occurred outside his home in the village of Nabi Saleh was broadcast live on Facebook by his mother becoming a viral video.

He had to face 12 charges, including aggravated assaults, and last March pleaded guilty to less serious crimes and sentenced to eight months in prison.

A spokesman for the Israeli prison service said that Tamimi has left Sharon's prison and is heading for the West Bank, where his family has been protesting against an Israeli settlement near his home. The Palestinians want the West Bank for a future state, along with East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
