Admiral De Felice: "our interests are in Libya". To Di Maio I say that the defense of the homeland belongs to every citizen, even to him who repudiates war

(by Massimiliano D'Elia) After tonight's attack on the American bases in Iraq, where our soldiers are also present, we heard on the phone the division admiral of the reserve, Nicola De Felice, an expert in military and international politics who among his numerous positions in top defense bodies there was also the Sicily Maritime Command, where as commander he personally managed all the emergencies that occurred in the part of the Mediterranean that directly affects Italy.

Admiral, after last night's Iranian attacks, what should Italy do?

“In Iraq now we can do nothing but respect the pacts with the allies, following the short-term programmatic fate of the coalition. In the meantime, outline a medium-term exit agreed with the allies, in a progressive and definitive manner. At the same time, press on the USA for greater support for Italian initiatives in Libya ”.

So should we do more in Libya? Like?

"The government does not "cry over spilled milk", but is busy trying to recover the situation and at least guarantee the safety of our soldiers on Libyan soil. Define (if not already done - Sic!) The geopolitical objectives as advantageous and useful as possible in order to protect or increase the national interests of the area, then start and coordinate, under the direct responsibility of the Prime Minister - not delegable to the Minister of Foreign Affairs - a so-called "direct" operational strategy, that is, which puts in place not only the diplomatic tool, but also the other instruments of national power (military, economic, intelligence) in a synergistic way towards all actors involved, by the allies (primarily the USA, France and Turkey, which are part of NATO), then towards the North African and Arab countries, placing indisputable "stakes" in military and commercial cooperation, as appropriate, with the aim always of achieve the strategic objectives defined upstream.
I remember, for example, that a military ship with ground-based fire support capacity can safely station in international waters 12 miles from the coast of the state on which to put pressure without having to bother any legal request. It's called "naval diplomacy".

Admiral, our foreign minister, speaks of art. 11 of the Constitution, the repudiation of war, to outline your idea of foreign policy, what do you think?

"Based on the declarations of the Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Di Maio who based himself on art 11 of the Constitution (repudiation of the war) as a reference to his current foreign policy strategy, I believe it is necessary to remember the equally important art. 52: " The defense of the homeland is a sacred duty of the citizen".
Our constitutional fathers, by proclaiming that the defense of the homeland is a sacred duty of the citizen, made an affirmation of the highest moral and juridical significance. It implies for all citizens, without exclusions, the defense of the homeland which is the condition before the conservation of the community. The defense of the homeland represents a duty placed above all others, and that no law could fail. It is a duty that is connected precisely because it is intimately sacred inextricably with belonging to the national community identified in the Italian Republic. Thus understood, it transcends and exceeds the same duty as military service (Constitutional Court 24.4.1967, n. 53).
This duty should not be understood as limited to armed defense, but as a general moral obligation, therefore for all citizens, regardless of gender, age, attitude or not to arms, to protect their rights by any means and in any form. and the national interests of the nation ".

" A 'top political authority' is therefore invested with particular RESPONSIBILITIES and additional duties inherent in the security function of the State and therefore of the national community ".
